PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To limit the generation of by-product at the end of discharge, and to increase the discharge capacity of a battery by using a compound oxide, in which a part of a surface of manganese oxide grains is formed with a solution phase by titanium, as a positive electrode active material. SOLUTION: A solution phase of a surface of a manganese oxide grain formed by titanium restrains the generation of by-product of a discharge such as heterolyte, and facilitates the progress of an reaction MnO2 +H2 O+ e<-> →MnOOH+OH<-> till the end of discharge, and lowering of electric potential is restrain at the minimum till the end of the discharge. This manganese oxide is obtained by washing manganese dioxide, which is obtained by electrolytic synthesis of manganese sulfate solution, and crushing it, and thereafter, putting it in titanate such as the solution of titanium sulfate, and agitating it, and heating it so as to be changed to the compound oxide, in which a part of a surface of the manganese dioxide grain is formed with a solution phase by titanium. Desirably, total content of titanium in the manganese oxide is set at 0.05-5 wt.% of the whole of the oxide. |
