The locker management system provides a data support (S) to the user after the locker is first locked. The data is read by a reader (L1) and recorded in a memory (m) which also holds parameters of the particular locker and the time it was locked. During a set interval the data support can be used to open the locker, with the data support being read (L2) to authorise lock release. The reader sends the data to the memory m, for checking against rules for use of the lockers, before the lock is released. If necessary a further payment is requested. Once the lock is open the data support is updated to allow further access.
