PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkali secondary battery with its high capacity and capacity recovery property after low battery voltage storage by containing an active material paste consisting of a nickel hydroxide powder coated with cobalt hydroxide (II) and thickener aqueous solution in a three-dimensional porous substrate and initially charging a battery with it being a positive electrode under a specific condition. SOLUTION: An active substance paste is prepared by a positive electrode active substance consisting of a nickel hydroxide powder coating cobalt hydroxide (II) and thickener aqueous solution such as CMC, is charged in a three- dimensional porous substrate consisting of non-woven fabric of fiber coated with foamed nickel and nickel plating, dried, and pressurized, thereby manufacturing a paste type nickel electrode plate. With this nickel electrode plate being a positive electrode, a negative electrode is laminated via a separator to make a winding electrode plate group, and is housed in a square can vessel, and an alkali electrolyte is injected and capped to make a sealed alkali secondary battery. This secondary battery is left for a while to form a cobalt complex ion, left in a state in which a surrounding temperature rise to 30 to 80 deg.C, then initial charging is performed. |
