PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily manage a shift in the optical axis of the optical fiber core of a coated optical fiber held in the connector finely inμm units. SOLUTION: The optical fiber cores 4A and 4B of the two coated optical fibers 1A and 1B to be connected to each other are held by the connector 12 and made to abut against each other, and after the optical fiber cores 4A and 4B are connected by fusion splicing through discharge between a couple of discharge electrodes 40 and 40', the two-split type connector 12 is fixed to the coated optical fibers 1A and 1B as projection jackets for the connection parts of the coated optical fibers 1A and 1B. The connector 12 has thin flexible parts 18 and 18' around the abutting parts of the optical fiber cores 4A and 4B, and the two optical fiber cores 4A and 4B are aligned with each other by being finely adjusted in two dimensions through the deflection of the flexible parts 18 and 18' while held by the connector 12. |
