<p>An artificial muscle made from high polymer elastic material and fibre has a tubular structure. The fibres are disposed evenly within the tube wall and on the interior and outer surface of the tube wall. The tubular structure is divided into one or a number of individual closed cavities along the axial direction of the tube, and each cavity is communicated with a pump through a flexible tube, a joint and a control valve. The tubular muscle can be extended or contracted axially as the pump actuates, while it cannot be expanded laterally, thus it not only has a property of pliablity and contraction just as human muscles, but also has an unique strong tensile feature. The tubular artificial muscle according to the invention can be applied widely to flexible robotic arm, prosthesis, bionic toy, stage property, medical apparatus and can be used in the space field.</p> |
