The system modules come complete with plug-in mechanical, installation and functional interfaces including communal lift (4.2-4.5) so that service and area modules give a functional basic storey floor unit without hand-tool use directly on site. The addition of another storey of modules affords a fully functional lift-inclusive unit. Storeys can be added or withdrawn without tool assistance and without disrupting useful functions. The addition of upper modules varies floor area in the range 50 to 200 m<2>, all without any increase in site area occupied. The service block combines all functions notably staircase (4,1), lift shaft (4,2), sanitation (4,6), energy, heating and communications (4,8) together with associated plug-in service connections. This service block can be integrated into a conventional house or form an exterior addition. The lift system comprises self-propelling cabin (4,5), in-module integrated guide and plug-in power rail (4,4).
