<p>This invention is related to a test kit which determines the susceptibility of bacteria to antibiotics within four to six hours. Classical tests that determine the susceptibility of bacteria to antibiotics usually require 18-24 hours of incubation. The new tests that give the result early, require an instrument that will show the bacterial growth in a short period of time. The basis of this invention is the usage of a special media containing a color indicator that shows the bacterial growth in a short period of time. In this kit the metabolic activity of bacteria at a certain concentration of an antibiotic is determined by the change of the color of the medium and thus the susceptibility of the bacteria to this antibiotic is determined in a short period of time. In this way the result is obtained early without requiring an instrument.</p> |
