Shape-memorising alloy drive for doors and windows

A swing-drive with a rotary movement allows doors and windows to take up two or more different positions. It consists of a conventional hinge plus a torsion bar (20) made from a shape-memorising alloy which responds to heat, cold and other external pressures by changing in shape and thus effecting a rotation of the positioning arm. The bar is tubular in shape and sits within a rotation spring (15) of a conventional material. It is connected at the top to the door frame (10) and at the bottom to the door (17). It may be operated hydraulically through inlet and outlet tubes (13, 19) or electrically and may be heated and cooled by liquids or gases or by different electrical systems. It is compact and made up of few components.
