Use of e.g. p-hydroxybenzoic acid, gallic acid, vanillic acid, syringic acid, myricetin, quercetin and camphor oil

A pharmaceutical product, useful for therapy and prophylaxis of cardiovascular disorders and for selective lowering of blood lipid levels, comprises a natural extract comprising a mixture of p-hydroxybenzoic acid, protocatechuic acid, gallic acid, vanillic acid, syringic acid, myricetin, quercetin, camphor oil, isorhamnetin and anthocyanidines. The extract is obtained by: (i) mild extraction of marc of red grapes in the presence of an acid, under reductive conditions with a water-miscible solvent; (ii) separation of the solvent; and (iii) formulation of the solid, liquid or viscous residue, optionally with additives. Also claimed are: (i) dietetic food, comprising a natural extract obtained as above and also comprising other food components such as carbohydrates, proteins, fats and/or vitamins. The food is in the form of a baked product, corn flakes, muesli, fruit waffles, fruit juice drinks, chewable sweets, chewable tablets, sherbet, lemonade tablets or a milk product (e.g. yoghurt); (ii) preparation of extracts of marc of red grapes comprising extraction of marc of red grapes with water-miscible organic solvents (selected from 1-4C alcohols, lower ketones, ethylene glycol, ethylene glycol monomethyl ether and/or ethylene glycol monoethyl ether), in the presence of a reducing agent and in the presence of an (in)organic acid or salt at 10-60 deg C, for 1-48 hours and evaporation of the organic solvent under vacuum.
