An air bag system for a navigator's or passenger's seat includes a casing (1) with an opening (0) arranged in an instrument panel (P) below an inclined windshield (W). An air bag (18), having a gas inlet port (20a) and accommodated in a folded shape in the casing (1), is held at the peripheral edge of the gas inlet port (20a) by the casing (1). When inflated, the air bag (18) will extend a great distance toward the passenger's seat and will also interfere with the windshield (W). The inflator is arranged in the casing (1) for feeding the gases to the gas inlet port (20a) of the air bag (18) which is offset from the center (C) of one of the base cloths (19,20), and the opening (2) of the casing (1) is covered but opens upon inflation. The air bag (18) is shaped by sewing the peripheral edges of two circular base cloths (19,20). <IMAGE> |
