PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ester-group-containing porous resin in which the functional moieties are arranged and oriented on or near the surface of a primary particle of the resin by polymerizing a mixture containing divinylbenzene and a vinylbenzyloxyalkyl ester derivative. SOLUTION: A mixture containing 3-30 wt.% vinylbenzyloxyalkyl ester derivative represented by the formula (n is 2-16; and R is a 1-4C alkyl), 15-97 wt.% divinylbenzene and 0-82 wt.% aromatic vinyl monomer such as styrene is mixed with an organic solvent such as hexane in a solvent/monomer ratio of 70/30 to 25/75 by volume. The resulting mixture and a polymerization initiator such as lauryl peroxide are added under agitation to an aqueous medium in which a dispersion stabilizer such as polyacrylamide has been dissolved, and the entire is subjected to polymerization at elevated temperature. The porous resin obtained by separating the product by filtration after the reaction, and washing and drying it has a surface area of 50-600 m<2> /g, a secondary particle diameter of 50μm to 2 mm and a degree of orientation of functional groups of 75% or above. |
