<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound useful as an intermediate for medicines, agrochemicals, etc., by reacting diiminosuccinonitrile with a cyano compound. SOLUTION: This N-cyano-diaminofumaronitrile is represented by formula I. The compound represented by formula I is obtained by reacting a compound represented by formula II, e.g. acetonitrile with hydrogen cyanide in the presence of a basic catalyst such as trimethylamine in an organic solvent of hydrocarbons such as toluene or xylene at a reactional temperature within the range of 0-50 deg.C, preferably 10-20 deg.C for 10 min to 2 hr. The amount of the base used is preferably within the range of 0.01-1 molar equiv., preferably 0.02-0.2 molar equiv. based on the amount of the hydrogen cyanide used. The reactional time is preferably within the range of 0.5-1 hr at 20 deg.C reactional temperature.</p> |
