PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cold-roll stainless steel, particularly austenite stainless steel and provide good surface quality at a high rolling speed even at a low draft by using surface-modified work rolls and by using a specific composition. SOLUTION: Surface-modified work rolls are used and a roll oil composition containing a 6-22C carboxylic acid as hexanoic acid and a 1-18C aliphatic alcohol as methanol in an amount of 2-50 mass % based on the whole weight of the composition are used to carry out the cold rolling. chrome steel is used as a parent material and the steel is plated with chromium and the chromium- plated rolls and composite coated rolls are used for this cold rolling.
