A credit totalizer in a vending machine comprises a wheel having two oppositely directed sawtooth systems at its periphery, the wheel being stepped in one direction by rotation of a knob using an inserted coin as a coupling, and being stepped in the opposite direction by a pawl driven by a shaft of a price calculator. Fig. 2 shows part of a liquid fuel dispenser, wherein an inserted coin, after testing, falls into one of slots 21a . . . 21d in a drum, so that rotation of a segment 22 by a manual knob through a one-way drive rotates drum 21 and cam 24 through 90 degrees, to operate levers 25 and 27 and pawl 28 once, and advance the wheel five teeth. If four coins are inserted, a pin on wheel 29 disables the coin tester, so that further coins are rejected. A button may be pressed so that a receipt is issued when the knob is rotated. When the fuel nozzle is removed from its holder, the pump motor is energized, and a slider 45 moved to disengage pawl 28, and engage pawl 49. Also the coin tester is disabled, if three or less coins have beon inserted. Rotation of shaft 52 by the fuel delivery meter reciprocates pawl 49, eccentrically mounted on gear 54, to step wheel 29 back. A pin on the wheel opens a fuel supply valve when a coin is inserted and closes it on return of the pin to the datum position and de-energizes the motor, with the usual throttling of supply towards the end. If coins of different value are to be accepted, the coin apparatus, including the knob, is repeated for each denomination, and each steps wheel 29 by an appropriate number of teeth. The apparatus may be locked to prevent automatic operation, a panel which normally displays the credit established then showing an appropriate legend.</p> |
