PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating polyester fibers for reinforcing rubber capable of manifesting a high adhesive strength even for heat-resistant rubber such as ethylene-propylene-diene rubber and affording the high-quality polyester fibers for reinforcing the rubber. SOLUTION: Polyester fibers are treated with a bonding liquid prepared by mixing a precondensate of resorcin and formaldehyde with a rubber latex, aging the resultant mixture, then adding and mixing an aqueous ammonia solution of a high-molecular weight condensate of 2,6-bis(2',4'- dihydroxyphenylmethyl)-4-chlorophenol, 2,6-dihydroxymethyl-4-chlorophenol and resorcin and a carboxylated vinylpyridine latex with the aged liquid and then heat-treating the resultant fibers. In the process, a mixed rubber latex obtained by compounding a styrene-butadiene-vinylpyridine terpolymer latex (VP latex) with a polybutadiene latex (PB latex) and an acrylonitrile-butadiene latex (NBR latex) in a specific proportion is used as the rubber latex. |
