The display quality of a reflection type liquid crystal display device is improved by taking a balance between a white display and black display due to the scattering thereby to achieve a bright black-and-white display. For this, there is provided a structure comprising: a light control layer sandwiched between two transparent electrodes for transmitting 60% or more of an incident light irrespective of the change in the voltage level between the transparent electrodes; and a reflection layer having a reflectivity of 10 to 50% and disposed at the back of the light control layer. <IMAGE>
