PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the display device which has high contrast and high picture quality by using high polymer dispersed liquid crystal. SOLUTION: The display device has a display panel which has a high polymer dispersed liquid crystal layers 4 and 5 between a couple of substrates 2 and 7 and also has pixels, modulating irradiating light, in two dimensions, and averaged liquid crystal orientation directions 10 and 100 in scatter mode wherein no voltage is applied to the pixels are nearly parallel to the layer surfaces of the high polymer liquid crystal layers 4 and 5. In the scatter mode, on the other hand, the two high polymer dispersed liquid crystal layers 4 and 5 which have mutually orthogonal orientation directions scatter P- and S-polarized lights. |
