PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the rate of effective utilization of dehydrated sludge cake and consequently that of such raw sludge as sewage sludge by adding a carbonized material to regulate the water content of the dehydrated sludge cake, granulating the regulated sludge and carbonizing the granulated material. SOLUTION: An org. sludge is dehydrated into a dehydrated sludge cake contg. about 80% water, a carbonized material originated in another system and pulverized to <=500μm is added to the dehydrated sludge cake in an amt. equivalent to >=1/2 of the solid in the cake, and the water content of the cake is decreased to 40-70%. The carbonized material originated in another system is obtained from scrap wood, garbage and org. sludge. The dehydrated sludge cake with the water content regulated is granulated, and the granulated material is carbonized in a reducing atmosphere of nitrogen or steam to obtain a granular carbonized material. The granular carbonized material is effectively utilized as a soil conditioner. |
