A packaging (1) for tobacco is made from a synthetic laminate material and is closed on three sides, an opening being present in the top side. The packaging comprises a front and back wall which are joined together along their edges, a flap attached to the back wall, a pair of side walls, and a base wall. The laminate material comprises (A) a first polyolefin layer (3) present on the outside of the packaging, and (B) a second synthetic layer (5) present on the inside of the packaging. (A) comprises a cast polypropylene film and (B) is a laminate of a biaxially oriented polypropylene layer (7) and a melt-bondable polyolefin layer (6), the polypropylene layer being adjacent to (A). Preferably (B) is a coextruded layer of polypropylene and polyethylene, having a maximum density of 930 kg/m2.
