Control signal transmission in cable installations

Video and/or audio signals are supplied from a controllable video and/or audio processor to a playback apparatus by an interconnecting cable. The control signals for the processor are generated in response to an instruction produced by the video and/or audio playback servicing unit and transmitted via the screening jacket of the cable to the processor. Preferably, the control signals are inductively coupled into the cable screening jacket and inductively output coupled from it. They may be transmitted by a carrier frequency in the region of 200 kHz.
