The program control unit for a washing machine or a dryer has an electronic circuit (5) for controlling a laundry drum motor, and a timer motor (2) provided for driving an electromechanical cycle operation. A coil of the timer motor (2) is connected as compensating resistance of a rectifier located on a pole (L) of the mains supply. The resistance provides for the current supply of the electronic circuit (5).
