The contact, preferably containing slots, is machined by milling, sawing, turning or stamping. The tools (40, 41) are shaped to form a negative of the edges (52-55) on which the burrs are formed, thrusting the latter clear or making them into the desired shape. This can be done by top and bottom punches working in opposite directions, while there can be a centring boss (42, 43) on each punch. The latter can be radiused (46-49) to match the radiused edges on the finished article. The forward ends of the bosses can be chamfered (50, 51) to aid centring.
