In a machine for advancing and folding box blanks as described in Specification 920,743, means are provided for varying the speed of the folding bolts 101, 102 with respect to the conveyer belts 65, 65<SP>1</SP> so that the outer folded panels can be squared with the other panels. Shafts 31, 32, 33 and 34 extending transversely between standards 27,28 are rotatably mounted therein and shafts 31, 33, 34 extend through a mounting plate 35 secured to one end of one of the rails 22 whilst eccentrically mounted shaft 32 is clear of the mounting plate. Folding belts 101, 102 extend round pulleys 103, 104 and pulleys 43, 42 on shaft 31 and conveyer belts 65, 65<SP>1</SP> round pulleys 25 and pulleys 54, 55 on shaft 34. Pulleys 42, 54 and 55 are keyed to their respective shafts in grooves 41, 53 whilst pulley 43 is freely mounted on shaft 31 but rotatably mounted on the plate 35 and secured to sprocket wheel 44 on the other side. In operation, the main drive motor (not shown) rotates the shaft 132 (Fig. 4) and through right-angle drive 131 rotates the sprocket wheels 133 and 134. Rotation of these will, through the various sprocket chains and sprocket wheels shown, rotate the pulleys 42, 54 and 55 keyed to their respective shafts. Rotation of pulley 43 on shaft 31 comes through sprocket wheel 44, sprocket chain 45 and sprocket wheel 46 mounted on shaft 33. If, as a run of folded blanks proceeds the operator should find that the panels are not squared, then he will vary the speed of the folding belt 101 round pulley 43 by means of the pushbuttons 146 on standard 28 (Fig. 4), connected to the reversible motor 145 which can increase or decrease the speed of the output shaft 144 with respect to the input shaft 143. |
