A dual mode cordless telephone handset detects signals from a master unit connected to a private line and a base station connected to a public line. If signals from both the master unit and the base station can be received, the presence of the handset on a battery charger is detected. If this condition is met, the private line is assigned priority over the base station connected to the public line. Under this condition signals received from the priority line are monitored more frequently than those from the other line. If it is detected that only signals from one of the lines can be received, this line is monitored continuously. The arrangement seeks to minimise current consumption in the incoming call wait mode. |
