Torsion rods (5) with their end pieces (6) are inserted into a cylinder (4) and secured by screws (7). A double bearing ring (8) sits on the cylinder (4). A second cylinder (10) encloses this inner assembly (4, 8). The two cylinders (4, 10) are pinned (12) together. Guide pins (11) secure one end piece (6) to the outer cylinder (10). One end of each cylinder (4, 10) is supported by a bearing (3). The whole is retained in the housing (1). This has a rectangular cut-out for an optical reader (2). This consists of two photoelectric cells to read the unique codes on the peripheries of the cylinders (4, 10).
