PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device such that for the voltage fluctuation of a commercial power supply, the difference between a detected voltage and a threshold voltage can be secured at not less than a certain voltage and that reliability is high in detecting the connection of a discharge lamp. SOLUTION: This device includes second resistive potential divider circuits 25, 26 connected to the output of a rectifier circuit 2, a second potential dividing smoothing capacitor 27 smoothing the outputs of the second resistive potential divider circuits 25, 26, and a voltage comparator circuit 24 to which an output voltage from the second potential dividing smoothing capacitor 27 and that from the first potential dividing smoothing capacitor 23 are input and which then compares the two output voltages, and the device controls the on/off action of first and second switching elements 8, 9 by means of a control circuit 10 on the basis of the output of the voltage comparator circuit 24. |
