A dye-receiving element for thermal dye transfer has a support carrying on one side a dye-image receiving layer overcoated with a layer contg. a water-soluble poly(ethylene oxide) polymer. Also claimed are (A) an assembly of (a) a dye-donor element having a support carrying a dye layer and (b) the dye-receiving element; and (B) formation of a dye transfer image by imagewise heating the donor element (a) and transferring the image to the receiving element.
