A plate reformer lies on the underside and/or topside of a stack. The distance between stack and reformer lies in the area of a few millimetres. The reformer consists of high temperature-proof metal or ceramic. The plate reformers are filled with catalyser material are fixed on the end plates of the stacks. The fuel gas flows first of all in the plate reformer and then in the stack.
