IMAGE CAPTURE AND DISPLAY APPARATUS

An image capture and display apparatus (60) is described which comprises an array of elements (10). Each element includes a photodetector (12) and a display (20). Each element (10) is provided with processing circuitry (16) which performs compression of the image captured via the photodetector (12) utilising a wavelet transform. The apparatus (60) is able to simultaneously display and capture an image on a time-division multiplexed basis.
