1,137,052. Sliding clasp fasteners. V. N. HYTONEN. 5 Jan., 1966 [8 Jan., 1965; 3 Dec., 1965], No. 519/66. Heading E2S. A fastener comprises two co-operating members secured to attaching tapes 8, 12 wherein each member is made from a metal blank provided with a plurality of spaced transverse slots 3, each blank being bent to define a longitudinally extending ridge 5, 10 the cross section of the ridge being that of an open loop with a neck portion, whereby for closing the fastener the ridge of one member is pressed into the ridge of the other member through its neck portion thus engaging the ridges one inside the other. In the construction shown one edge portion of each blank is formed with teeth 2 by which the members are attached to the tapes 8 and 12. In a modification however the blanks are formed with teeth in both edge portions and the inner member is attached to its tape 12 by both sets of teeth and the outer member is attached to two tapes 8 one by each row of teeth. Three arrangements of the slots 3 are disclosed; in one arrangement all of the slots are closed at both ends; in a second arrangement each alternate slot opens to one edge of the blank and the other slots are closed at both ends and in a third arrangement the slots open alternately to opposite edges of the blank. The head portion of each ridge can either be curved as shown or can be flat. The members are engaged either by a sliding clasp or by manual pressure. |
