Optical fibre bundle laser system

The system has a fibre bundle of single mode fibres with a first fibre bundle end at which an overall radiation field is formed by the emanating laser beam. An image of the field is formed on a target surface. The second fibre bundle end is coupled to a laser beam generating subsystem contg. at least one semiconducting laser. The subsystem (18) contains a number of parallel working semiconducting laser units (102), all operating with the same wavelength and in phase stable manner using a master laser beam coupled into them. The individual laser beams emanating from the individual units in a subsystem are combined in a coupler to a coherent laser radiation field which can be coupled into the single mode fibres (20).
