In apparatus for thermoforming thermoplastic sheets wherein the sheets are first heated in a heater unit (12; Fig. 1 not shown) and then passed to moulding dies (38,44; Fig.1 not shown) which apply pressure to a sheet to be thermoformed, a carriage 50 for transporting the sheets between the heater unit and the moulding dies, has a frame 52 adapted to clamp the peripheral edge of a thermoplastic sheet, by means of claws 70, one side 58 of which at the downstream end of the carriage is adapted to open to enable the carriage to be withdrawn from the moulding dies once the thermoplastic sheet has been gripped between the dies. After withdrawal the carriage can be loaded with the next sheet to be thermoformed.
