A device for lifting and shifting railway track comprises two independently operable lifting jacks 12 raising uprights 8 on supports 11, the uprights 8 being hinged to a frame 4 carrying track engaging means and a connecting bar 5 to provide a quadrilateral deformable obliquely by a jack 17. A self centering track gripper has two hooks 22 pivoting at 23 on the frame 4 under the action of a jack 29, their motion being equalised by a cross-over rod 25. The supports 11 have bases 16 engaging the ballast 3, the uprights 8 being raised independently as required, after the gripper hooks 22 are engaged with the rails 1, to lift the track; transverse movement of the track being produced by deformation of the quadrilateral about the pivots 6, 7 by the jack 17. In a modification the pivots 6, 7 are formed on the cylinders of the jacks 12 and the jacks 17 acts between a pivot 7 and a pivot on the frame 4. In another modification, the ballast engaging jacks are omitted and the bar 5 forms part of a vehicle, the lifting jacks being connected directly to the tool frame 4. The four jacks may be connected in parallel in a single pressure fluid supply system, the four control valve handles being arranged to operate in the sense of track movement required. |
