A liquid storage tank 2 has a removable filling tube 12 with gas flow path means 20, attached to a wall of the filling tube, and a gas exit aperture (30, fig 2). In use, liquid is delivered to an outlet 16 at the submerged lower end of the tube, and gas is removed from the filling tube via the gas exit aperture, which reduces turbulence and vaporization in the tank. In the preferred embodiment, the gas flow path means is a vertical conduit with a plurality of elongate, gas inlet apertures (36, fig2), a non-return valve (42, fig 2), and flame retardant means (46, fig 3), and the gas exit aperture is formed in the filling tube wall, communicates with the storage tank headspace, and is located adjacent to gas redirection means 18. Another aspect of the invention includes means for causing the flowing liquid to spiral, the gas inlet apertures being directed away from said liquid flow. |
