The rail bogie (1) is adapted to be hooked with semi-trailers or similar road vehicles to form a train for riding on rails. It has a chassis (3) mounted on a pair of wheel assemblies (5, 7) via a suspension system. First and second oppositely oriented fifth wheels (9, 11) are mounted on top of the chassis (3) in such a man ner as to be inserted under a semi-trailer and connected thereto by means of a king pin. The first fifth (9) wheel is pivotably mounted about a first horizontal axis (a) at one end of a lifting frame (15) that is pivotably mounted about a second horizontal axis (b) onto a supporting structure (17) rigidly fixed to the chassis (3). The second fifth (11) wheel is pivotably mounted about a third horizontal axis (f) on top of a tilting body (31) that is pivotably mounted about a fourth horizontal axis (g) onto the supporting structure (17). A power jack (13) extends longitudinally and centrally with respect to the chassis (3). This power jack (13) is connected to the lifting frame (15) and the tilting body (31) in such a manner as to cause them to simultaneously pivot about their second and fourth horizontal axes (b, g), respectively, and thus to lift up or down the first and second fifth (9, 11) wheels in unison. The rail bogie (1) may incorporate one or two electric motors (103) for driving one or both of its wheel assemblies (5, 7). Also disclosed are combinations including an improved rail bogie (1) as defined hereinabove, with one or more related pieces of equipment. Such related pieces of equipment may include a semi-trailer (111) provided with a power generator (139). They may also include a cabin unit (131) hookable to the rail bogie (1) in order to accommodate the driver(s) of the train. |
