ATM ADDRESS RECOGNITION SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To immediately answer to an inquiry signal by a domain name from a terminal with a necessary ATM address by making a domain name server cooperate with an ATM address management server and returning a response to received ATM address inquiry information to the pertinent terminal. SOLUTION: The terminal equipments 2a-2f transmit extension protocol address inquiry information containing a protocol address when they desire to learn the physical address of the destination terminal. Domain name servers 3a and 3b managing the domain names and the protocol addresses return the responses to the pertinent terminals when they receive inquiry information. ATM address management servers 4a-4b managing the protocol addresses and the ATM addresses are provided with ATM address tables storing the corresponding relation of the protocol addresses and the ATM addresses of the plural terminals. They refer to the ATM address tables and return the ATM address inquiry responses.
