PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make possible improving linear recording density without reducing an isolated recording magnetic domain size by relatively adjusting the switch timing of an applied magnetic field for the irradiation start or end timing of a laser light pulse and forming plural recording magnetic domains consisting of magnetization state answering to recording signals before/after switching. SOLUTION: An isolated single recording magnetic domain consisting of a single magnetization state or plural magnetization states is formed by delaying or hastening the switch timing of the applied magnetic field by a prescribed time, and a multi-valued signal is answered to various magnetization states, and multi-valued recording becomes possible. For forming the recording magnetic domains of the different magnetization states on the central part and the outer peripheral part of the recording magnetic domain, a differenceΔT between the irradiation end timing of the laser light pulse and the magnetic field applied timing is adjusted so as to be satisfied with -T>ΔT>T-T0 for a laser pulse width T0 and a clock period T. High density recording becomes possible without shortening a bit pitch.
