PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily enable application over a wide range by setting the number of the polymerizable functional groups of second reactive mesogen smaller than that of first reactive mesogen and determining the mixing ratio of both in such a manner that a prescribed pretilt angle is applied to liquid crystal molecules. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal cell has a pair of glass substrate plates 10 which have polyimide alignment layers 12, have polymer liquid crystal alignment layers 14 thereon, are arranged apart a spacing and are coated with transparent conductive indium tin oxide. The cell has a liquid crystal layer 16, a pair of the alignment layers which are disposed on the opposite surfaces thereof and consist of a mixture contg. the first and second reactive mesogens and a pair of electrodes which face to each other with the liquid crystal layer 16 held therebetween. The first and second reactive mesogens have the one polymerizable functional group and the number of the polymerizable functional group of the second reactive mesogen is smaller than that of the first reactive mesogen. Further, the ratio of the second reactive mesogen to the first reactive mesogen of the mixture is so determined as to impart the prescribed pretilt angle to the liquid crystal molecules 20 of the liquid crystal layer 16. |
