PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ATM connection router and its control method with which system performance can be improved and the construction of system is facilitated by eliminating the transmission/reception of unwanted message for address retrieval from the router. SOLUTION: When an address retrieval request reporting message is received from the connecting destination of the logic connection line before sending the address retrieval request reporting message, this message is stored in an address managing table 44. Next, the update of management information logic stored in the address managing table 44 and routing information stored in a routing control table 43 is performed. When sending out the address retrieval request reporting message, the address retrieval request reporting message is sent out except the connecting destination of the logic connection line stored in this address managing table 44.
