<p>A file (10) includes a support member (12) having an abrasive surface (14) treated with a sanitizing agent. The surface (14) or the interstices (18) between particles (16) of abrasive hold the sanitizing agent which is released with use of the file (10). The sanitizing agent is either in a liquid carrier or contained within microcapsule (20). The microcapsule (20) are frangible and break upon use of the file to release the sanitizing agent. The file surface (14) may comprise granular abrasive particulate (16) having a size ranging from 40 to 1200 grit which provided the interstices (18) between at least some of the particulate (16). An aqueous coating having dispersed therein an adhesive and the microcapsules (20) is applied to the granular particulate (16). The coating is dried to deposit in the interstices the microcapsules (20). The adhesive binds the microcapsules (20) to the granular particulate (16). When a mixture of sanitizing agent and liquid carrier is used, the abrasive surface (14) is coated with the mixture and then the liquid carrier is removed to coat the surface (14) with the sanitizing agent.</p> |
