<p>Printing plates are formed from a layer of photopolymerizable resin (8) by a process and assembly which involve moving a resin layer (10) past a variable intensity light source (12) so as to sequentially and selectively cross-link the resin layer (10). The variable intensity light source (12) can be provided by means of a bank of lights (34) that can be controlled by computer-controlled switches so that individual lights in the light bank can be turned 'off' and 'on', as necessary, to provide a pre-selected cross-linked pattern in the resin layer (10) which will produce the desired printing plates. The rate of movement of the resin layer (10) past the light bank can be controlled by the computer so that individual slices of the resin layer (10) will be exposed to the light bank for the appropriate periods of time needed to produce the desired pattern.</p> |
