The apparatus uses a foil switch element (24) extending along the closure edge of a door or window (24). A force is exerted on the switch element for closure of the switch, when an obstacle is detected in the closure movement path. The switch element has a pair of carrier foils at a given spacing, provided with at least two contact elements. The contact elements are located along two active regions (26), respectively associated with two elongated force transfer elements (16) on either side of the switch element.
