PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an unsaturated polyester which has a melting temperature of a specific temperature or higher and is excellent in thermal resistance, by carrying out a polycondensation using together a polyhydric alocohol component comprising hydroquinone[1,4-bis(hydroxyethyl)ether], a polybasic acid component containing terephthalic acid (or dimethyl ester thereof) and anα,β-unsaturated polybasic acid (or anhydride thereof). SOLUTION: Disclosed is an unsaturated polyester which is prepared by using a polyhydric alcohol component consisting essentially of hydroquinone [1,4-bis(hydroxyethyl)ether] represented by the formula and has a melting point of 150 deg.C or higher. Terephthalic acid (or dimetyl ester thereof) is essential for a polybasic acid component. Desirably anα,β-unsaturated polybasic acid is fumaric acid. This molding material is prepared by adding a curing gent and a filler to the unsaturated polyester. As a curing gent, an allyl ester type gent is preferred. As a filler, a silica powder, etc., are used. In curing, t- buthylperbenozoate, etc., is used together as a curing catalyst.
