<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject dispersion useful as a heat seal adhesive, capable of carrying out adhesion especially on an aluminum sheet, by producing the dispersion by a specific multistage emulsion polymerization. SOLUTION: A particulate poly (meth)acrylate comprising (A) 50-90 wt.% of a methacrylic acid alkyl ester, (B) 5-30 wt.% of an acrylic acid alkyl ester of formula I (R<1> is a 2-20C alkyl, aryl, etc.) having -50 to -20 deg.C glass temperature Tg, (C) 2-20 wt.% of a functional monomer of formula II (R<2> is H or methyl; R<3> is a group of formula III or a hydroxy-substituted 2-6C alkyl), (D) 2-10 wt.% of a radically polymerizable carboxylic acid or (partially esterified) polycarboxylic acid and (E) 0-40 wt.% of another monomer copolymerizable with the components A to D is used as a base. The dispersion is produced by a multistage emulsion polymerization in which at the first polymerization stage, the components A to C and optionally the component E are copolymerized, at the second polymerization stage, the components A, B, D and optionally the component E are copolymerized and the components A to E are supplied in an amount up of to 100 wt.%.</p> |
