The satellite (10) has a body (20) placed in an external magnetic field (12) and having an unbalanced electrical supply bus (18) which produces a local magnetic field. The supply bus runs round the external surface of the satellite. The current passing through the bus is produced by solar panels (14,16) and/or an electrical battery (34). The bus currents can circulate in two different senses, as the electrical load is connected through power converters and circuit path switches. A controller (28) receives data from detectors and determines the couple required to adjust the satellite attitude, and determines the current profile needed in the bus to obtain that couple. Sources are and loads are then switched to obtain that current profile.
