<p>The optical element includes at least one optical fibre in a tubular sleeve (5). The sleeve is formed of an elongate metal strip with overlapping strip edges (9,11) formed into a tube. The strip edges of a metal strip (7) are adhered together in the overlapping region (13). The sleeve may be directly surrounded by a plastic cladding. The sleeve may be formed of an aluminium or steel metal strip. The metal strip may be provided with an adhesive layer on its outer side. Alternatively an adhesive layer may be provided on one edge in the overlapping region. Alternatively a hot melt adhesive may be applied to the metal strip directly before shaping the strip into a tube.</p> |
