A package for the sterile storage of surgical devices, e.g. peans, comprises a bag 1, Fig. 2, having welded side seams 3 extending over part of the bag length. An extension 4 of the top edge, secured at 5, facilitates the opening of the bag to expose the device. In another embodiment, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), the bag is encased by a strip (10) having ends secured to the bag top edges and welded side seams near the bottom of the bag. A slot (11) in one side of the strip gives access to the bag which is moved upwards to open. Fig. 7 shows an embodiment for uniform opening in which the bottom is sealed by a weld 151 and the strips 14 are secured together, and Fig. 9 shows yet another embodiment. The bag may be kept inside a sealed outer wrapper, Fig. 8 (not shown), formed from a laminate of aluminium foil and e.g. polyethylene, or other laminates. The bag may be formed of plastics foils, plastics foil laminates, or plastics foil laminates and metallic foil. A moistening agent may be placed in the package.
