PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease a contour generation artifact at a spatial light modulator(SLM), by feeding back an error component and using it for generating respective new pixel values. SOLUTION: An error diffusion circuit 10 is composed of an adder 12, horizontal delay memory 13, source 14 for random values, adder 15 and divider 16. An input signal to the error diffusion circuit 10 is a high-resolution signal of M bits, and this signal expresses the stream of pixel values to be used for generating the image. Concerning this high-resolution signal, the resolution per pixel is higher than the display resolution and the lower-order bits of high- resolution signal express the error component of high-resolution signal. The error component of adjacent pixel value is added to the random value concerning the respective pixel values of this high-resolution signal, the new error component is prepared, this new error component is added to the high-resolution signal, the result of process for adding the new error component is cut, and a signal having the display resolution is generated. |
