The heater hearth has a base (5) situated above a slidable drawer (7) to collect the ashes. The base of the hearth has holes (6) through which the ashes fall into the drawer to collect them. The base has a front pivoting section (12) to retain the wood and ashes, which is mounted to pivot (13-16) on the base, on the combustion plates, or on an exterior surface of the lower part of the hearth. The retainer for the wood and ashes can have a first section (12) which forms a frontal extension of the base surface of the hearth.
