METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR CONVERTING MULTI-BYTE CHARACTER STRING BETWEEN EXCHANGE CODES IN COMPUTER SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To convert the multi-byte data word of a first conversion code into the multi-byte data word of a second conversion code by collectively adding the index values of the multi-byte data word of the first conversion code and obtaining the multi-byte data word of the second conversion code of the second conversion code. SOLUTION: A first byte offset table 42 is a 256×8 bits array and respective items contain the offset indexes to the respective columns of a conversion matrix 46. A second byte offset array 44 is a 256×16 bits array and the respective items contain the offset indexes to the respective rows of the conversion matrix. The positions of an IBM host code 45Bhex in the conversion matrix 46 can be found by adding the index 1 from the offset table 42 to the index 2 from the offset table 44.
